Flooding Hits Low-Lying Areas In Wayne
Breaking: Some areas near the Pasasic and the Pompton rivers had been at or near flood stage earlier this week.

WAYNE, NJ — Low-lying areas of town near the Passaic and Pompton rivers flooded Wednesday, authorities announced.
"Residents in flood areas should take steps to protect life and property during this event, and contact the Wayne Police for assistance as necessary," a notice on the township's Office of Emergency Management stated.
The Passaic River was at minor flood stage Sunday into Monday and action stage Tuesday into Wednesday. The river was at about 5.6 feet Wednesday afternoon.

The Pompton River at the Pompton Dam never reached flood stage, but was at action stage Sunday afternoon. The river was between 10 and 11 feet high in Pompton Plains.
Both rivers' levels have steadily declined since Sunday, information from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The township's Office of Emergency Management could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon.
