Hit-And-Run Driver Charged In Fatal Passaic County Crash: Officials

A 58-year-old pedestrian died in the crash, which happened back in April. Officials have charged a Clifton man with fleeing the scene.

PASSAIC, NJ — More than six months after a pedestrian died from injuries sustained in a hit-and-run crash, Passaic County authorities say they have identified and charged the driver responsible.

The fatal crash happened just before 11:15 p.m. on April 10, in the city of Passaic. City police went to the corner of Passaic and Aycrigg avenues and found 58-year-old Rachel McNeil injured there, authorities said previously. First responders took her to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, where she died two days later.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and Passaic Police Department identified Grzegorz Wolak as the driver, officials said.

An investigation connected Wolak to the vehicle that struck McNeil, added Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Chief of Police Luis A. Guzman in a news release last week.

Wolak, 33, was charged with second-degree leaving the scene of an accident. If he is convicted of that crime, he faces a sentence of between five and 10 years in state prison.
