Man Dead From Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound On Rt. 3: Prosecutor

The man's body was found in the driver's seat of a Nissan Maxima, which was parked at a gas station, authorities said.

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — A man was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound to the head at a Clifton gas station Saturday morning, authorities announced.

Police responded to the BP gas station at 300 Route 3 at about 11 a.m. about a report of an unresponsive man in a vehicle there, said Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes.

Police found Morad Awad, 24, dead behind the wheel of his Nissan Maxima. Awad was recently homeless and had been sleeping in his car, Valdes said.

Awad was pronounced dead at the scene with an apparent gunshot wound to his head, Valdes said. An initial investigation indicated that the wound was self-inflicted. A autopsy will be performed this week to determine the official manner of death, she said.

No suspects are being sought at this time and there is no danger to the public, Valdes said.
