Arrest Made In Fatal Passaic County Stabbing

The arrest came two days after a 70-year-old woman was found stabbed to death inside a home, prosecutors said.

PATERSON, NJ — Authorities on Thursday arrested a man and charged him with murder in connection with this week's fatal stabbing of a Paterson woman, the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office announced.

Duwan Gales, 72, of Paterson, was arrested two days after a 70-year-old woman was found stabbed to death inside a residence in the area of Cianci and Market streets, prosecutors said.

Police responded to the home shortly before 2:20 p.m. Tuesday and found the woman suffering from multiple stab wounds.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Investigators later identified Gales as a suspect in the woman's death, according to prosecutors. He was arrested without incident and charged with first-degree murder and weapons charges.

If convicted of murder, Gales faces life in prison.
