Partial Home Collapse, Fire Displaces Passaic Co. Residents
Firefighters had to briefly evacuate while part of the home was collapsing, officials said.
HAWTHORNE, NJ — Fire crews battled a blaze in Hawthorne on Sunday night that caused a partial roof collapse and displaced several residents, officials said.
The Hawthorne Fire Department responded to a home on Cedar Place around 10:23 p.m. The wood-frame home had fire showing in the rear of the first and second floors and extending into the attic, officials said.
The home was on a dead-end street, and firefighters called for assistance covering the borough while they fought the flames. Companies from Glen Rock, North Haledon, Wyckoff, Prospect Park, and Fair Lawn arrived to assist, said the HFD.

Firefighters had the flames under control in about an hour, but remained on scene for about four hours, the department added. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
