Propane Grill Fire In Wayne Leaves One Person Hospitalized With Burns, Blisters

Police responded to a call over the weekend of a propane grill catching fire and leaking, causing one person to be hospitalized with burns,

The Wayne Police Department is reporting an incident that occurred over the weekend involving a house fire that left a resident with burn injuries.

At approximately, 8:16 on Saturday night, Wayne police were dispatched to 48 Chestnut Drive for a call placed by a resident of the home, 25-year-old Marija Markovik, who told dispatchers a propane grill had caught fire and was leaking, with flames growing larger and moving closer to the home. Wayne Fire Companies 2 and 5 also responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, personnel assisted Markovik and a second resident, Sean Higins, move to a safe distance across the street. A third person, 22-year-old West Milford resident Andrew Sebshlina, was brought to the hospital after being evaluated by personnel and found to be suffering from burns to his hands and arms. Sebshlina also suffered singed hair as a result of the initial “flash of fire” from the propane. He was later treated and released.
