'Very High' Fire Danger In Passaic Co., Burn Restrictions Implemented
Ongoing dry weather conditions prompted officials to implement Stage 3 fire restrictions throughout the state, including on grills at parks.
PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — With increased wildfire activity and dry conditions across New Jersey, campfire restrictions are in effect for Passaic County and throughout the state until further notice.
The New Jersey Forest Fire Service implemented statewide Stage 3 Fire Restrictions on Monday morning, meaning that fires in wooded areas are not allowed unless they are contained in an elevated stove. Agricultural burning is also not allowed, as the state continues a prolonged period without significant rainfall.
County officials clarified that all open flames — including campfires, charcoal grills, and fire pits — are prohibited in county parks, forests, and recreation areas.

"In line with this restriction, grill use is also prohibited in all Passaic County parks to ensure public safety and protect the environment," officials said Monday.
Passaic County is considered "abnormally dry" according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, though communities in central and southern New Jersey are experiencing moderate to severe drought.
