WAYNE, NJ – A lost holiday ornament was reunited with its owner, thanks to the efforts of a township department of public works employee.

On Wednesday, Daniel Schorno said he was at work, chipping Christmas trees, when he found the decoration, which features a snowman and snowwoman, holding an “Our first Christmas together, 2003” sign.

Schorno posted a picture of the ornament in a local Facebook group, writing, “Doesn’t seem like something I’d want to lose after 16 years, so let’s give this a shot."

"Maybe you know a ‘Kyle & sue’ from Wayne who may have forgot this on the tree, and we can figure out how to get it back to them," he wrote.

Soon after his post, Susan Dowling Daniw was identified as the owner of the missing ornament by fellow Facebook users and Schorno made arrangements to reunite her with it.

Dowling Daniw said, "We didn’t realize it was lost but we are happy that Daniel found it for us. We were just engaged and in our first house, so it’s our oldest ornament as a family. It’s survived four moves, two kids, two cats, and a dog. Being able to get it back is a great example of how social media can be a positive for the community when people are looking out for each other rather than arguing."
