Wayne House That Caught Fire Is A 'Complete Loss:' Fire Offcial

Something caught fire in the home's garage and firefighters went back to the Skyview Road home late Tuesday night.

WAYNE, NJ — The house that caught fire on Skyview Road Tuesday afternoon is a complete loss, authorities said.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire, and no one is permitted to enter the property, said Wayne Fire Commissioner Bob Minarick.

"Based on what I saw, the house is a complete loss," Minarick said.

A neighbor reported seeing a flame shoot up from a pile of debris where the garage had been at about 11:30 p.m., Minarick said.

Firefighters from Cos. 3, 4, and 5 responded to the house at 11:39 p.m. and extinguished the fire, said Detective Capt. Laurence Martin. Firefighters left the house at 1:20 a.m., he said.

"Rekindles can be extensive and significant," Minarick said.

It is unknown if the neighbor who reported the rekindled fire is the same one who reported the initial fire. That neighbor reported the "house was fully engulfed in flames," Martin previously said.

Officer Dave Fox was the first responder on scene and found a man in the front of the property complaining of smoke inhalation, Martin said. No other injuries were reported.

The Wayne Volunteer Memorial First Aid Squad responded to both fires. Fire crews from West Paterson, Little Falls, Lincoln Park, Pompton Lakes, Hawthorne, and Pequannock responded during the first fire and covered the Wayne fire houses while local firefighters were out.
