Wayne PD 'Assessing, Reassessing Security' After Terrorists Release Video Threatening Malls
Though nothing suggests any of Wayne's malls may be targeted, Wayne Police say assessing and reassessing security is a "constant process."

The Wayne Police Department said they have always constantly assessed and reassessed security needs for their shopping centers - even before a video released by a Somali-based militant group with al-Qaeda ties threatened to attack malls in the U.S.
Though retail centers in Wayne haven’t been targeted specifically, Captain Laurence Martin says he can “assure ... that all of our Public Safety partners, [including] federal, state, county and local, in this region constantly assess and reassess our infrastructures for improvements.”
“The Wayne Police Department works cooperatively with our partners in the law enforcement community as well as any private entities regarding security at our shopping facilities,” Captain Martin added. “The heightened alert status issued by the Department of Home Land Security underscores the issue that the Continental United States as a whole is still considered a target of attacks from terrorism both foreign and domestic.”

Al-Shabaab, who released the video, said it was responsible for the 2013 attack at a Kenya mall that left more than 60 people dead, NJ.com reported.
Though the police department cannot publicly discuss any of their security measures for the best interest of public safety, Captain Martin said they “are always assessing and reassessing security needs for our shopping centers.”
