Wayne PD Using Amazon Ring's Neighbors App

Township residents now have a modern-day neighborhood watch right at their fingertips.

WAYNE, NJ – Township residents now have a modern-day neighborhood watch right at their fingertips.

Wayne Police has teamed up with Ring, the Amazon-owned security system company best known for its video doorbell, and is a member of the Neighbors by Ring app.

Wayne joins more than 400 other agencies across the country using the app, which is available to download for free and allows police to view, post and respond to crime and safety-related information posted on the app.

Once it is downloaded, users can choose from a half-mile to five-mile radius around their neighborhood to monitor what’s going on nearby. Incidents such as crimes or suspicious activities are posted on the app, as well as posts from neighbors who have signed up for the app.

The Neighbors app provides users with a way to receive and share video their Ring doorbells filmed and real-time crime and safety updates. And, police can also submit video requests to the public to help with active investigations nearby.

The department noted that the app is not monitored 24/7.

“By working together, we can all make Wayne a safer community,” the department said.
