Wayne Township School District Calendar For 2024-25: Key Dates To Know

WAYNE, NJ— Summer is almost over for more than 7,700 Wayne students, with just over four weeks left of vacation until the new school year begins.

The first day of class for Wayne Township Public Schools is Thursday, Sept. 5 in all 15 buildings. Patch pulled a list of other important dates for the 2024/25 school year, which you can view below.

For families who are new to Wayne Schools, officials put together this guide on how to navigate the district website, which includes information on where students and parents can access district programs, see schedules and grades, and find support services. There is also a Wayne Schools app, which was rolled out earlier this year.

The district consists of the Preakness Early Childhood Center, nine elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools: Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley. Classes will run until the end of June, with commencement set for June 25, 2025.

District officials also built four emergency days into the calendar, in case schools need to close for winter weather or another . If those four days are not used, students would get more time off from school around Memorial Day. If the district uses more than four emergency days, officials would need to add in more school days, which would shorten the spring recess in April. We've included the district's plan for those scenarios below the main calendar.

Here are some of the important 2024-25 school year dates to get on the calendar:

• Sept. 5: First day of school for all students
• Oct. 3-4: Rosh Hashanah-Schools Closed
• Nov. 5: Full Staff Inservice Day-Students Off (Election Day)
• Nov. 7-8: NJEA Convention - Schools Closed
• Nov. 27: Minimal Day - Start of Thanksgiving Holiday
• Nov. 28-29: Thanksgiving Holiday-Schools Closed
• Dec. 4-5: Pre-School/Elementary Minimal Day-Parent Conferences
• Dec. 20: Minimal Day-Start of Holiday Recess
• Dec. 23-31: Holiday Recess-Schools Closed
• Jan. 1, 2025: New Years Day - School Closed
• Jan. 20: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day-Schools Closed
• Feb. 5: Minimal Day for all Students / Staff Inservice Day PM Only
• Feb. 14: Winter Recess-Minimal Day
• March 31: Eid-al-Fitr-Schools Closed*
• April 9: Minimal Day for all Students / Staff Inservice Day PM Only
• April 14-17: Spring Recess-Schools Closed
• April 18: Good Friday-Schools Closed
• May 26: Memorial Day-Schools Closed
• June 3: Election Day-Schools Closed*
• June 23: Minimal Day for all students
• June 24: Minimal Day - Last day for all students
• June 25: Staff Inservice Day-Last Day for Teachers-Minimal Day
• June 25: Wayne Valley and Wayne Hills High School commencement ceremonies

*As a note, there may be changes to the primary election date and to the start of Eid-al-Fitr, so the district will update the schedule if need be.

Unused Emergency Days Plan - Schools Closed

• If four unused emergency days: May 23, 27, 22, and May 28
• If three unused emergency days: May 23, 27, and May 22
• If two unused emergency days: May 23 and May 27
• If one unused emergency days: May 23

Make-Up Emergency Days Plan - Schools Open

If more than the allotted four emergency days are used, school will be in session on the following make-up days:

• If one additional day is needed: April 14
• If two additional days are needed: April 14 and 15
• If three additional days are needed: April 14, 15, and 16
• If four additional days are needed: April 14, 15, 16, and 17
