Boy Charged With Murder, Teen At Large Caught After NJ Man Shot Dead: Prosecutor

MILLVILLE, NJ — A teen accused of involvement in the shooting death of a Cumberland County man has been arrested, while a boy was also charged with murder in the case, authorities said Monday.

Three Cumberland County teenagers have been charged in the slaying of Roshaud Rhett, a man killed in broad daylight June 14 in Millville, officials said. All three were in custody on Monday afternoon.

Two of the suspects — Trasuf J. Bennett and James L. Henry, both 19 — were charged days after the shooting. Both were at large for much of last week and considered "armed and dangerous," according to the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office.

Bennett, accused of shooting Rhett from a vehicle, was arrested Thursday night in Trenton.

Henry, who was charged with weapons offenses, returned gunfire at the scene, authorities said. He was arrested around 10:20 a.m. Monday in Millville.

On Monday, authorities also announced that a 16-year-old boy was charged with murder in the case. Prosecutors did not specify how the juvenile was allegedly involved in the shooting.

He was detained as of Monday afternoon.

Bennett pulled up in a vehicle and shot Rhett around 11:05 a.m. June 14 on the 300 block of Maurice Street in Millville, authorities said. Henry returned fire toward Bennett's vehicle, according to prosecutors.

Rhett, 20, of Millville, was brought to the hospital and pronounced dead.

Bennett, of Bridgeton, and the juvenile were charged with first-degree murder and weapons offenses.

Henry, of Millville, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Online court records did not list attorneys for Bennett or Henry on Monday.
