VINELAND, NJ - A car found at the bottom of a lake in South Jersey was recovered by local divers Saturday, officials said.

The car, submerged 33 feet below the surface of a lake in South Vineland Park, was located via sonar detection, the Downe Township Fire, Rescue and Dive Team said in a statement.

A line was then secured by divers from the vehicle to the surface, with tow service provided from Battelini Transport & Towing Service, Downe officials said.

“Divers then swam the tow cables down the rope to the vehicle and secured the tow line to the tow strap that was placed on the vehicle by our initial divers,” Downe officials said. “Once our divers and boats were clear of the area Battelini's removed the vehicle.”

It was not immediately clear how long the car had been sitting at the bottom of the pond. The dive team said the car was 124 feet from the shore.
