'Code Blue' Issued In Camden County With Temperatures Dropping

WEST DEPTFORD, NJ — A Code Blue weather advisory is in effect until next week in Camden County.

The advisory means municipalities will begin getting ready to serve residents who have no fixed address, helping them stay warm. People looking for a warming center are asked to check with their local municipality.

The health department issued the Code Blue advisory from Feb. 10-15, from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. The after-hours Code Blue emergency line is 211.

County Commissioner Carmen Rodriguez encouraged people to check on elderly or disabled neighbors and loved ones to make sure they are safe.

“We need to make sure everyone is inside and away from these extreme elements as these low temperatures can be dangerous,” Rodriguez said. “It’s also important our elderly or residents living with disabilities have their heat in working order and that all pets are brought indoors.”

Rodriguez also offered cold weather tips for pet owners, including to keep pets inside as much as possible when temperatures drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Here is the extended forecast for Camden County this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday afternoon: Mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 29. West wind around 5 mph becoming southwest after midnight.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 53. Light southwest wind increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the morning.

Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 44. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 55. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday night: A slight chance of rain before 1 a.m., then a chance of rain and snow between 1 and 3 a.m., then a chance of snow after 3 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Sunday: A chance of rain and snow before 1 p.m., then a chance of rain between 1 and 3 p.m., then a chance of rain and snow after 3 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Sunday night: A chance of snow before 7 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 18. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 28.

Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 18.
