EMT Stole From Patient's Purse In South Jersey: Prosecutor
He was dispatched to provide medical aid. He left with $220 of the victim's cash, authorities said.
NEWFIELD, NJ — A Gloucester County man stole money from a patient's purse while working as an EMT earlier this year, authorities said.
Antoni Simmons, who worked as a Gloucester County EMT, was charged Wednesday with theft.
On April 30, Simmons was dispatched to Newfield to provide medical aid to a patient. At the scene, he rummaged through the victim's purse and stole about $220 in cash, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.

The victim discovered the cash was missing later that day. Investigators later uncovered surveillance footage that showed Simmons going through the victim's purse and pocketing the cash, authorities said.
Simmons, 44, of Glassboro, was charged with fourth-degree theft. He was released on a summons and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 4.

Online court records didn't list an attorney for Simmons on Wednesday.
Simmons was also charged with fourth-degree shoplifting in 2020, but the case was conditionally dismissed a year later, according to court records. Additional information on the case wasn't immediately available.
