Ex-Fire Chief In West Deptford Had More Than 100K Child Porn Files: Court Docs

WEST DEPTFORD, NJ — A former fire chief from West Deptford was found with more than 100,000 images and videos containing child pornography, according to court records.

Martin Matson, 70, was charged with possession of child sexual abuse material and arrested on Thursday.

Matson was the chief of the Greenfields Volunteer Fire Company, according to 6abc Action News. The fire company went defunct in 2021 for a merger that formed the West Deptford Fire Department.

The West Deptford resident has a playground behind his house where neighborhood children have played over the years, according to Action News.

Matson is detained in the Salem County Correctional Facility, which provides jailing services for Gloucester County. He will next appear in court for a pre-indictment conference in late June, according to online court records.

Matson's attorney declined comment to Patch.
