Man, 74, Dies In Head-On Crash In South Jersey: Police

MAURICE RIVER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A man was killed in a head-on crash last week in Cumberland County when his car crossed onto the other side of the road and hit another vehicle, authorities said.

The other driver was brought to the hospital with minor injuries after the crash early Friday in Maurice River Township, police said.

One of the drivers — a 74-year-old man from Woodbine — sustained fatal injuries, said Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron, a State Police spokesperson.

Authorities withheld the driver's identity Monday as they worked to notify his next of kin.

State troopers responded to the crash at 12:04 a.m. Friday on Route 347.

The man was driving northbound when his Toyota Matrix crossed the centerline and hit a Ram pickup truck head-on, according to the preliminary investigation from State Police.

The crash remains under investigation.
