Man Killed, 2 Injured After Car Rear-Ends SUV In South Jersey: Police

Multiple victims were extricated from the wreckage at the scene.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A passenger died and both drivers were injured after two vehicles crashed Monday in Gloucester County, authorities said.

It happened just after 5 p.m. at the intersection of Hurffville-Cross Keys Road and Chapel Heights Road in Washington Township.

A woman was driving southbound on Hurffville-Cross Keys Road when her 2020 Nissan Sentra struck the rear of a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse, police said. Firefighters extricated multiple entrapped victims from the heavily damaged vehicles.

Her passenger — a 46-year-old Philadelphia man — was unresponsive. He was brought to Jefferson Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Nissan driver was driven to Cooper University Hospital with neck and back pain, while the Chevy driver was taken to Jefferson Hospital for neck pain.

The crash happened in front of Washington Township High School, but none of the involved parties are students.

Hurffville-Cross Keys Road southbound was closed for about two hours after the crash.

Criminal charges are pending as the investigation continues, police said Tuesday morning.
