Person Trapped On South Jersey Railroad Tracks Gets Rescued

A crash made their vehicle flip onto its roof in an especially dangerous spot.

WESTVILLE, NJ — A car flipped onto its roof and landed on railroad tracks, trapping a person inside before firefighters rescued them Thursday in Gloucester County.

Two vehicles crashed at 7:37 p.m. at Gateway Boulevard and West Olive Street in Westville, officials said. One of the cars overturned and partially landed on the railroad tracks at the intersection.

One person was trapped inside.

Officials contacted the railroad line, which paused all trains to the area. Westville firefighters then stabilized the vehicle and got the person out of their car.

One person was brought to the hospital, according to the Westville Fire Department.

The railroad tracks are part of the Vineland Secondary, a freight-train line. A portion of the line runs alongside Gateway Boulevard (Route 45) and crosses West Olive Street.
