Truck Spills Chicken Waste Onto Highway In Gloucester Co.

The roadway was closed for several hours as crews cleaned the fowl mess.

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, NJ — A truck left something fowl in Gloucester County when it spilled chicken waste on the roadway on Tuesday.

A truck that carried chicken waste parts and products lost a portion of its load on Route 322 in Woolwich Township. But the driver flew the coop before officials could identify the responsible party.

"There has been some vague reports of a tractor trailer that may have been responsible for this incident," the Gloucester County Office of Emergency Management said on Tuesday, "however a hauler (responsible party) has not yet been identified or located."

The incident was reported at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday. As crews cleaned and mitigated the roadway, Route 322 was closed for several hours in front of the Shell gas station off the New Jersey Turnpike.

The roadway reopened around 6:30 p.m.

Crews from the NJ Department of Transportation led the cleanup as police diverted traffic.

It's not the first time this has happened in Gloucester County. Two years ago, a truck carrying chicken waste got into a crash, which spilled its load onto Route 55 in Deptford.

Gloucester County Emergency Management referenced the incident on Tuesday, saying "we were hoping to never have to make an another post about chicken waste on the roadway again."
