West Deptford High School Athletes Step Up Volunteer Efforts
Thanks to a great community response and some dedicated parents, WDHS athletes have made a tangible difference in a variety of meaningful ways for neighbors in their community this spring.
Thanks to fruitful community efforts during Strike Out Breast Cancer Week back in May, athletes from the West Deptford High School (WDHS) softball and baseball teams were able to present a sizable donation to representatives from the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
The kids handed over a check for nearly $3,000 that was raised in a pair of designated fundraiser games played this past Spring—one from each of the respective varsity squads—in a small ceremony on June 13.
Then, in the Soles for Souls shoe collection led by upperclassmen from the WDHS cross country team, high schoolers gathered 106 pairs of usable, second-hand shoes to be donated for needy persons around the world.
Finally, the WDHS football team spent their Saturday last week clearing trash, weeds, and debris from Exit 19 on I-295 with the Clean Communities program. The boys "even had time for a little football toss during one of their breaks," noted Karen Garson, who sent in some great photos of their efforts.
Congratulations to the dedicated athletes, parents and organizers who helped channel the charitable efforts of the West Deptford community in such positive ways.
