Car Stolen From Westfield Lot; Suspect Claimed to Have Gun

A person exiting their car in a parking lot in Westfield had their car stolen by someone who claimed to have a gun.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield police are investigating an early morning car theft.

Police said a car was stolen from the owner, who was getting out of the driver's seat, in a parking lot at the Summit Medical Group, at 574 Springfield Avenue.

According to police, the suspect got out of a blue Lexus SUV and told the victim that he had a gun. Police said the suspect never showed the gun. Police tracked the Lexus and found it was stolen from Maplewood.

"Please be aware of your surroundings at all times. Report all suspicious persons, vehicles and activities to the police immediately via 9-1-1," police said.
