Congregation Beth Israel Celebrates Sukkot
Scotch Plains Synagogue Celebrates Sukkot
Volunteers from the Men’s Club of Congregation Beth Israel (CBI) in Scotch Plains built the synagogue’s Sukkah (booth) on Sunday, October 13, in preparation for the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. In keeping with tradition, the volunteers erected the Sukkah on the synagogue’s outdoor patio to replicate the temporary huts that their ancestors dwelled in while wandering in the desert. Throughout the week-long celebration of Sukkot, which began October 16 at sundown, congregants and Religious School students were able to eat in the synagogue’s Sukkah.
Congregation Beth Israel’s Sukkah was also the first of many stops on the synagogue’s Sukkah Hop on Sunday, October 20. The Sukkah Hop event kicked off with lunch in CBI’s Sukkah. Participants then “hopped” around the community, enjoying drinks and desserts in the sukkahs of their fellow congregants.
