Cross-County Pub Crawl To Support Union County Saint Patrick’s Parade

The pub crawl will stop at four Irish bars on Saturday to raise money to help defray parade costs.

UNION, NJ — The Saint Patrick’s Parade committees in Union County and Newark have joined forces behind a cross-county pub crawl of four Irish bars on Saturday to raise money to help defray parade costs.

"This is a great partnership of two of the state’s most successful parade organizations,
working to celebrate our heritage and culture with a fun day out in some of the most
successful establishments in the region," said Union County Saint Patrick’s Day Parade
Committee Chairperson Gabby Sully of Cranford.

Patrons must register and buy $50 tickets in advance by contacting 2025 Union County Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshal Marc Dowling at 908-967-0740 or 2025 Newark Saint Patrick’s Parade Grand Marshal Sean McGovern at 973-477-3073.

"We’ll depart at 11:30 a.m. from Dowling’s Irish Pub and Restaurant in Roselle Park, then head to the famous McGovern’s Tavern in Newark," said Dowling, co-owner of Dowling’s.

McGovern, the owner of McGovern’s, added, "We’ll then travel to the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh clubhouse in West Orange, and land back in Roselle Park by approximately 5:30 at the Sun Tavern."

Buses will return to Dowling’s and McGovern’s as final stops at the end of the day.

Dowling’s is located at 117 Chestnut Street, Roselle Park, McGovern’s Tavern is at 58-60 New Street in Newark, the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh Clubhouse is at 648 Prospect Avenue in West Orange, and the Sun Tavern is located at 600 Westfield Avenue West in Roselle Park.

The 90th Annual Newark Saint Patrick’s Day Parade steps off at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 14, from Mulberry and Lafayette streets in Newark. The 28th Annual Union County St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 15, 2025, in Union Township.

Future fund-raising events for the Union County Saint Patrick’s Day Parade include:

  • The annual McNany Charitable Foundation, Inc., Grand Marshal Fundraiser, 2-6 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 16, at the Kenilworth Veteran’s Center, 21st Street, Kenilworth. Admission is $30, and music entertainment is by The Captain & O’Neill.
  • A Finnegan’s Wake & Fun Run, on Saturday, Feb. 22. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., at the Sun Tavern, 600 Westfield Avenue West, Roselle Park. The race begins at 12:30 p.m. and the Finnegan’s Wake runs from 12:40 – 4 p.m.

On the day of the 2025 Union County St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the celebration begins at 9 a.m.,
March 15, with the tradition of a Thornstick Mass at St. Patrick’s Church in Elizabeth,
followed by preliminary presentations at noon at the main reviewing stand in Union Township
Center.

The parade starts on Morris Avenue, between Commerce and Jeanette Avenues,
proceeding east to the reviewing stand at Stuyvesant Avenue and ending at Roosevelt Avenue.

Parade-goers can also hear information about participants and the parade’s history at the mid-
way reviewing stand at Morris and Caldwell Avenues.
