UPDATED: Reports Identify Father of 10 Killed in Botched Union County Robbery

A botched robbery resulted in the shooting death of a 57-year-old taxi driver, and father of 10, in a "quiet residential" neighborhood.

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed Imad Alasmar was the taxi driver shot and killed in a botched robbery in a “quiet residential” neighborhood in Rahway Tuesday night.

Alasmar, 57, leaves behind 10 kids whose ages range from 8 to 22, according to My Central Jersey.

Reports say it was just before 11 p.m. on Bedford Street when the driver picked up a customer who called for a ride through a private line. Once the suspect entered the vehicle a struggle ensued and the driver was shot once in the head, causing him to crash into two parked cars, according to Pix 11.

The suspect was not able to take any cash, according to reports.

A woman sitting in one of the parked vehicles was seriously injured and taken to an area hospital.

The taxi driver, whose name has not been released, had worked for Station Cab for four years, according to nj.com.
