Halloween Costume Exchange Begins at Westfield Library September 16
Donation of costumes runs from 9/16 to 10/23. Choosing costumes runs from 9/23 to 10/27. Drop off donations anytime the library is open.

It’s October, which means that the orange of autumn is everywhere--on the leaves, on the pumpkins and, of course, on Halloween decorations. But this year the orange of the season is “green” at the Westfield Memorial Library, where the second annual Halloween Costume Exchange is a fun, ongoing eco-friendly event that also reduces waste. The Westfield Memorial Library is located at 550 East Broad Street.
“I’m delighted that the library is helping Westfield residents to clean out their closets and celebrate Halloween in a more responsible way,” said Allen McGinley, Library Director. “Reducing waste and increasing environmental sustainability is what the library is all about.”
Donation of costumes begins on Monday, September 16, and people can continue to bring costumes to the library, all day, every day, until October 20. Days for choosing a costume begin on Monday, September 23 and will last until October 27. It is not necessary to donate a costume to take a costume, and one costume per child is recommended.

Molly Adams, Head of Youth Services, said, “Last year we had hundreds of costumes flowing in and out of the library. We had everything from princesses to superheroes to cowboys, teachers, police and fire fighters. Through the costume exchange, parents and kids can have fun choosing their costumes without spending any money and without adding to the environmental cost of costumes that will only be worn once. And if a child chooses a costume and then a week later changes their mind, they can exchange it for a different one.”
Ms. Adams said that library staff looked forward to seeing all the fabulous costumes that get exchanged this year. People are encouraged to bring the accessories that go with costumes as well. Any questions can be answered at youthservices@wmlnj.org.
