Japanese Restaurant Akai Lounge In Westfield Relocates, Expands Bar

The restaurant's new space includes a full bar, serving martinis, wines and sakes.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Akai Lounge, a Japanese restaurant in downtown Westfield, has officially opened its new space, which features a full-service bar.

The restaurant is now located at 47 Elm Street, in the former Theresa's space, and had its official soft opening on Wednesday.

"Thank you Westfield for all the love and support!" Akai Lounge wrote on its Facebook page Wednesday. "It’s a lot of changes for the staff — new systems/new workflows. Please be patient with us as we get settled in over the coming days."

Mayor Shelley Brindle has also encouraged residents to check out Akai's "great food, generous owners and gorgeous new bar."

Besides Westfield, Akai has restaurants located in Englewood and Scarsdale, New York.

According to its website, the modern Japanese restaurant serves a wide variety of "traditional and innovative" Japanese cuisine with a full bar offering martinis, wines and sakes.

"We offer the freshest sushi delivered daily from the finest seafood purveyors on the East Coast," the restaurant states on its website. "We also have a great variety of rolls and entrees, including our signature Chilean Sea Bass and skirt steak that allow our menu to please a wide variety of tastes and palates. Our large menu offerings, together with our modern decor, is here to bring a unique dining experience to our customers."

Akai Lounge is open for take-out, delivery and indoor and outdoor dining. Their hours are Monday to Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday 12:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
