New Jamaican Restaurant Opens In Union County: See Menu

A slice of the Caribbean has just landed in Union County, offering up Jamaican cuisine with Haitian flair.

ELIZABETH, NJ - A slice of the Caribbean has just landed in Union County, offering up Jamaican cuisine with Haitian flair.

Jerkie’s officially opened its doors earlier this month in Elizabeth, complete with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday attended by Elizabeth Mayor J. Christian Bollwage.

"We want to bring the Caribbean taste and flavors to Elizabeth and New Jersey, our chefs have over 15 years of experience,” Stan Gabriel, the owner of Jerkie’s, said in a news release. "We chose Elizabeth because we want to be a part of growing black-owned businesses and restaurants, while we build some Caribbean experience in the area. Our team has put in countless hours to create a unique and unforgettable dining experience for our guests. We can't wait for everyone to try our delicious food, sip on our signature cocktails, and grove to the beat of the Caribbean music."

Located at 11 Broad Street, the eatery features Jamaican favorites such as Jerk chicken and shrimp gyros, curry goat, rasta pasta and oxtail, as well as sweet plantains, roti and jerk wings. You can view the full menu on Seamless.

“Here in Elizabeth, you can travel the globe without a passport, come visit our newest destination hot-spot of the Caribbean,” Jennifer Costa, Elizabeth Tourism Executive Director, said in a statement.

Jerkie’s is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Delivery is available on Grubhub, UberEats and DoorDash.
