Updated Information As Union County COVID Vaccine Sites Announced

A report has revealed when the COVID vaccines will begin as sites have been identified for health care workers to make appointments.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Updated information has been released now that the state has listed three Union County sites where health care workers can make an appointment to get vaccinated.

Three Union sites were announced by the state this week, followed by a report in TAPInto saying that Union County residents over 75 may be able to get the vaccines as early as next month.

The state listed the following locations in Union County for health care workers to start making an appointment for the vaccine:

  • City of Elizabeth Health Department (418 Palmer St.)
  • ShopRite Pharmacy of Clark (76 Central Ave.)
  • ShopRite Pharmacy of Elizabeth (865 West Grand St.)

These sites are operating by appointment only and documentation of health care status will be required.

Initially, the vaccine will only be available in a limited supply therefore the vaccine will be administered in phase groups. The order is:

Phase 1A- Healthcare workers and long-term care facilities
Phase 1B- Other essential workers
Phase 1C- Adults 65 and over and those with underlying medical conditions
Phase 2- General public

Nursing homes were expected to start vaccinating before Christmas, but the process was delayed after the state missed a deadline. The rollout at nursing homes began this past Monday at a facility in Old Bridge.

Toll of 344,000

Messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines, including the Moderna vaccine, are a new type of vaccine that doesn't include the weakened virus, but rather, teaches human cells to make a protein that triggers the immune response (read more about that here).

In total, more than 16,900 people in New Jersey have now passed away from the virus.
