Hudson tragically lost his life on Jan. 26 while bravely responding to the fire at a 2.5-story home located at 332 Emerson Ave. around 8:20 a.m.

Just before 11 a.m., one mayday was declared on the second floor where a firefighter was removed and taken to a hospital, according to Central Jersey Fire Buffs.

A mayday is called when firefighters are lost, trapped, or injured. The mayday call came after a collapse at the home, according to Union County Hazmat FMBA Local 99.

Hudson later died from his injuries.

Hudson joined the Plainfield Fire Department in December 2021.

"His valor and selflessness were the hallmarks of his character, epitomized in his final act of bravery. He was not merely a firefighter - he embodied the very essence of heroism, putting the lives of others before his own, a testament to his unwavering commitment and courage," according to a statement released by the City of Plainfield. "The loss of such a remarkable individual is not only a professional tragedy but also a deeply personal one, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him."

Investigations into the fire are ongoing.
