Westfield High School Students Tops in National Merit Program

Two Westfield students will be recognized for their achievements at a Board of Education meeting later this month.

Two Westfield High School students were named National Merit Finalists earlier this year and will be recognized for their achievements at a Board of Education meeting later this month.

Jorge Ledesma and Nina Wang, both seniors at Westfield High School, will be recognized at the June 16 BOE meeting, at 302 Elm St., according to school district officials.

Ledesma was also recently named a National Merit winner sponsored by ASC Partners, LLC, school district officials said. Additionally, during this spring Ledesma was one of 141 high school students across the country selected as a Presidential Scholar. He will be attending Harvard University in the fall.

Wang was also recently one of 68 students at Westfield High School to receive a seal of biliteracy. She was one of four to receive a seal of biliteracy in Latin. The Seal of Biliteracy documents that the student has attained the proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English.

Wang will be attending Princeton University in the fall.

According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, the nationwide pool of finalists represents less than one percent of United States high school seniors.
