Westfield Regional Health Department To Join Boost NJ Day

Free vaccines and boosters will be available on Wednesday.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield is trying to encourage residents to get vaccinated and to get the booster shot by participating in Boost NJ Day. The statewide initiative — held on the one-year anniversary of New Jersey's first administered COVID vaccinations — represents a push to get more shots in arms as infections spike across the Garden State.

The Westfield Regional Health Department is hosting a clinic from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday at Forest Rd. Park in Fanwood. Rggular vaccines are available to those age 12 and up and boosters are available for those age 16 and up.

Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson will be available.

The Food and Drug Administration approved Pfizer booster shots for people 16 and older and Moderna and Johnson & Johnson boosters for adults. Those who received the Pfizer or Moderna shots should receive a booster at least six months after their initial vaccine course, according to the CDC. Patients who got the Johnson & Johnson shot should get a booster at least two months after their first vaccination, the agency says.

Coronavirus spread has sharply increased locally and throughout the state. The New Jersey Department of Health elevated Union County into the "high-risk" category of COVID-19 activity in its latest weekly report. The rest of the state has high-risk virus activity levels, as well, according to the agency.
