Hillsdale Mom Needs Bone Marrow Transplant

There will be a donor drive Sunday to search for a match for Karen Takla-Farag.

 

A Hillsdale resident diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia is seeking a bone marrow donor.

Karen Takla-Farag, the mother of a kindergarten student at Meadowbrook School and a parishioner at St. John's, was diagnosed with cancer last month. She requires a bone marrow transplant.

A donor drive has been scheduled for 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Westwood Community Center on Jefferson Avenue. Attendees will have the inside of their cheeks swabbed to test if they are a match.

"Karen is amazing person," Hillsdale resident Frank Pizzella wrote in an email. "She is a loving and a giving mother, daughter and friend. We must find a match."
