Men Charged In Connection With Hillsdale Assault: Prosecutor

HILLSDALE, NJ — A Westwood man and a Florida resident were charged in connection with the assault of a man outside of a Hillsdale bar early New Year's Day, acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo announced.
Juan Fernandez, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, was charged with aggravated assault, and Alex Green, of Westwood, both 22, was charged with hindering apprehension for serving as the getaway driver, according to authorities.
The Hillsdale Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office received information just before 1 a.m. Jan. 1 that Fernandez assaulted a victim outside of a Hillsdale bar, Calo said. He left the area in a car Green drove, he said.

The victim suffered a severe head injury and was taken to the hospital in critical condition; the victim remains in critical condition at the hospital, Calo said.
Authorities investigated and Green was arrested Wednesday and charged with hindering apprehension. Fernandez was arrested Sunday and charged with second-degree aggravated assault.

Green is due to appear in court Jan. 16. Fernandez is due in court Jan. 23.
