Colonia Rallies To Help 2 Families Displaced By House Fires

Three cats died in the Taylor Terrace home where the fire started Monday. The home next door was also badly damaged.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — On Monday, two homes in the Colonia section of Woodbridge were destroyed by a fire.

The fire started Monday afternoon at one home on Taylor Terrace, near Amherst Avenue, and Monday's high winds caused the flames to jump to the house immediately next door.

While Woodbridge firefighters put out both fires, "unfortunately, at around midnight, the fire reignited" at the second home. This is according to this GoFundMe set up to help the man who lived there.

Both families are currently homeless, as both homes are uninhabitable. The home where the fire originally started was completely destroyed, and is a charred shell of itself.

Colonia Councilwoman Debbie Meehan is organizing a donation drop-off from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Evergreen Center on Inman Avenue. Residents are asked to drop off money donations or gift cards, all of which will be given to the two families.

Also, all day this Friday, Oct. 18 Ciro's Pizza will donate 20 percent of proceeds from business sales to the two families. Ciro's Pizza is located at 140 Lake Avenue in Colonia.
