Bergen Man Stole $150K From Job's Accounts: Prosecutor

Nicholas Caruso, 49, made an Amazon account in his employer's name.

A Bergen County man allegedly stole more than $150,000 from his employer after he gained access to their checking account, authorities announced.

Nicholas Caruso, 49, of Hackensack, was arrested after an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office. He is a medical officer manager.

The prosecutor's office Financial Crimes Unit got information in October that Caruso was using his employer's Amazon and bank accounts to buy things and pay his bills, said acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo.

An investigation by the prosecutor's office revealed that between July 2015 to September 2018 had access to his employer's business checking account and that used online banking and pay bill services to pay for his credit card bills and vehicle loan, Calo said.

Caruso also made an Amazon account in his employer's name, which was linked to the business' checking account; Caruso's total theft was more than $150,000, Calo said.

Caruso was arrested Thursday and charged with theft by deception and computer related theft. He is scheduled to appear in Central Judicial Processing Court at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 26.
