COVID-19 Cases Rising Again In Bergen County: CDC

In the last seven days, cases rose by about 7 percent. In that same time, hospitalizations rose by over 30 percent, according to the CDC.

WYCKOFF, NJ — COVID-19 cases in Bergen County are increasing, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC). The county’s levels were raised to medium transmission by the CDC.

In the last seven days, cases rose by about 7 percent. In that same time, hospitalizations rose by over 30 percent, according to the CDC.

BA.2, the new strain of COVID-19, has been spreading in New Jersey for weeks. Officials stated this subvariant seemingly spreads more easily but many people don’t experience severe illness.

There are more than 700,000 people vaccinated in Bergen County and more than 850,000 people have at least one dose of the vaccine, the CDC reported.

All other counties in New Jersey still have low levels of transmission, according to the county CDC COVID-19 tracker.

New Jersey has reported almost 2 million confirmed COVID-19 cases since the state reported its first known case on March 4, 2020.
