Driver Pulled From Car That Burst Into Flames After Rt. 208 Crash

The Volvo left the highway, struck a boulder and a tree and then burst into flames, Wyckoff police said.

WYCKOFF, NJ — Passing motorists pulled a man from a burned car after it crashed on Route 208 Monday night, police said.

A 21-year-old man was driving a 2006 Volvo when it left the highway and hit a large boulder and tree and then burst into flames, said Lt. Joseph Soto.

Passing motorists pulled the man out of the car, which was "fully engulfed" in flames, Soto said.

Police officers responded to the crash at about 7:30 p.m. on Route 208 North between Cedar Hill and Russell avenues, Soto said.

The man, a Chester, New York native, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

The Wyckoff Police Department, Bergen County Sheriff's Department, and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Fatal Accident Task Force is investigating the crash.

The crash closed down the northbound side of Route 208 until about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Soto said.

Motor vehicle charges against the driver are pending.
