Eisenhower Garden Creator Appreciated by Wyckoff Board of Education
Matthew Martone completed his Eagle Scout project last June and was given an award of appreciation by the Wyckoff Board of Education on Monday.
The Wyckoff Public Schools Board of Education recognized Eagle Scout Matthew Martone for his efforts stemming from his Eagle Scout project that was completed last June.
Martone built a garden outside of the Eisenhower Middle School, which still stands pristinely as it embraces its first spring.
“The land was uneven and there were tracks through the area. There were some plant beds in the area and but the drainage over there was a nightmare,” said Martone. “They fixed the issue with the drainage and remediated the soil before I started. My project was to clean up the area, level the ground and fence things in.”

The area is now leveled and about 10 strips of plant beds have been installed. The plant beds are fenced in both with a wooden fence for ascetics and a mesh fence for protection from small animals.
“Planting beds have replaced the trailer outside of Eisenhower Middle School and there were high hopes for using these to support the science program. I want to thank Matt on behalf of the whole Board of Education,” said Board of Education President Robert Francin.

“It was great to do the project. It feels really nice to have the community appreciate it. The Board of Education are the ones who helped me the whole way in getting the project approved. With them giving me this recognition it has kind of come full circle,” added Martone.
