Man Impersonated Police Officer During Wyckoff Traffic Stop: Cops

Leonard C. Miles, 47, is a security guard and flashed a badge at an officer during a traffic stop, police said.

WYCKOFF, NJ — A security guard was arrested after he pretended to be a police officer during a traffic stop earlier this month, police announced.

Leonard C. Miles, 47, of Spring Valley, New York was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer, said Lt. Joseph Soto.

Officer Robert Schlossberg stopped a white Ford Mustang the morning of March 8. The owner, who was a passenger in the car, said he was a law enforcement officer in New York and showed a badge, Soto said.

Police investigated and learned that Miles is a security guard for a New York-based company and not a sworn law enforcement officers, Soto said.

A warrant was issued for Miles' arrest. The Spring Valley Police Department took Miles into custody March 12 on the warrant. He was held in the Rockland County Jail and waived extradition, Soto said.

Miles was taken to the Bergen County Jail Monday. He is scheduled to appear in court.
