Mercedes Benz Stolen Out Of Franklin Lakes Driveway: PD

The vehicle was unlocked and the key fob was inside, police said.

FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ — An unlocked Mercedez Benz was stolen out of a Greenridge Road driveway overnight Wednesday into Thursday, police said.

The vehicle's owner reported the theft at 7:20 a.m., said Capt. John Bakelaar.

The key fob was left inside the 2016 vehicle, Bakelaar said.

The Franklin Lakes Police Department often encourages residents not to leave valuables or key fobs inside their vehicles overnight, and to lock them.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office last week warned residents that vehicle thefts and burglaries are on the rise in North Jersey.

Thieves are "roaming quiet neighborhoods overnight, coming onto your property and pulling on car door handles," Robert Anzilotti, chief of detectives for the prosecutor's office, said in the video.

"In the past few months, Bergen County has seen an increase in the theft of cars and cars being stolen," Anzilotti said."This is occurring in all areas of the county."
