Ramapo Athletes Competing Collegiately

Many graduating standouts to bring their games to next level

The 2009-10 school year was one of great accomplishment by Ramapo High School athletes, many of whom will be taking their games to the next level.

The Franklin Lakes school boasts standouts in virtually all sports who made their marks on the North Jersey athletic scene. Many earned collegiate scholarships, others hope to make teams as walk-ons, but proud Ramapo graduates will be well-represented in the collegiate ranks next year.

The following are some of the students who plan to play collegiately:

Football

The Raiders finished the 2009 campaign with a 10-2 record, the final win coming in Giants Stadium for the over archrival Wayne Hills.

  • Manny Alvarez—Delaware Valley College 
  • Jesse Devonshuk—Montclair State University
  • Tom Hayden—University of Pennsylvania 
  • Tim Kologrivov—SUNY at Albany
  • Ross Krautman—Syracuse University
  • Jack Meussner—Marist College

Girls Volleyball

The girls volleyball squad had a great season, finishing with a 20-5 record, but were bounced in the quarterfinals of the states by Fair Lawn.

  • Kira Jordan—Wellesley College
  • Meghan Hubert—Franklin & Marshall

Track

Track athletes Chelsea Hartigan and John Burke will compete at Brown University and Lafayette College, respectively.

Among Hartigan's senior year accomplishments in the pole vault were first-place finishes in both the Group 3 indoor state sectionals and state finals as well as a fourth-place finish in the indoor Meet of Champions. Hartigan tied for third place in the outdoor pole vault at the Meet of Champions.

Burke finished second in the 200-meter dash in the league race this spring, while posting a ninth-place finish at the Bergen championships. He finished third in the league race in the 400-meter dash, 14th in the county race and 10th in the state sectionals.

Girls lacrosse

The girls lacrosse team finished its season at 8-9 after a 20-8 loss in the state tournament. The following girls will take their games to college: 

  • Erinn Hogan—Fairfield University
  • Jackie Boswick—Sacred Heart University
  • Bree Rickert—Wagner College
  • Maria Toscano—Manhattan College
  • Meg Gormley- Catholic University
  • Elizabeth Brackett—Roger Williams University

Baseball

The Raiders finished with an 11-11 record, with a 6-2 loss to Lakeland bouncing the boys from the state tournament. 

  • Warren Hartmann—Merchant Marine Academy (also may play basketball)
  • Andrew Bauer—trying out at Pace University
  • Sean Munier—trying out at Cornell University
  • R.J. Voorman—will play soccer at Drew University while possibly walking on to the baseball team

Boys lacrosse

The Raider boys lacrosse squad finished their season at 11-12 but made some noise in the state tournament, reaching the semifinals, where they lost to Princeton, 19-8.

 

  • Taylor Mosca—CW Post at Long Island University
  • Jake Krantz—Castleton State College
  • Mike Cascone—Kean University
  • J.R. Hartgers—Connecticut College
  • Matt Fleischer—Springfield College

 

Boys tennis

Four-time All-Bergen selection Christian Carcione will play at Swarthmore College after being a leader on a team that lost in the state semifinals to Millburn.

Golf

Golfers Rob Winters will walk on at Iona College, and Erik Skott will compete at Arizona State University.
