Schools Closed Under Threat of Storm

National Weather Service: 10 to 16 inches possible

The threat of a storm forced cancellations before a flake had even fallen.

Wyckoff public schools and Ramapo and Indian Hills high schools had cancelled classes for Wednesday as weather forecasts called for significant snowfall starting later Tuesday.

Additionally, the library Board of Trustees moved their planned Wednesday evening meeting to Thursday, while the Planning Board's scheduled meeting had already been canceled last week.

Township Clerk Joyce Santimauro said Memorial Town Hall will open in the morning; additionally, garbage is scheduled to be picked up in the morning, despite the weather.

A winter storm warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Snow was expected to develop late tonight, with 2 to 4 inches possible by morning, when it is expected to mix with sleet.

The National Weather Service said snow could be heavy throughout the day Wednesday, with 1 to 2 inches possible per hour. By the time the snow stops, the region could see 10 to 16 inches.

However, the snowfall's impact is expected to be compounded by winds up to 40 mph that could cause near blizzard conditions at times.
