Township Celebrates Lady Raiders' Basketball

Ramapo girls' championship season honored with governing body proclamation

The Township Committee on Tuesday applauded the accomplishments of the Ramapo High School girls basketball team, which earned its second straight county championship this year.

Many of the players and coach Sandy Gordon were presented with a proclamation honoring the girls' 23-7 record at the governing body's regular meeting.

The Lady Raiders had a dream season in 2009-10, again winning the Bergen Jamboree while getting to the semifinals of the state sectional championships. The girls finished their season ranked #4 in the Bergen Record, and standout guard Sarah Halejian won her second straight North Jersey Player of the Year honor.

The girls are likely to again threaten their NBIL foes next year, as the team retains much of its line-up, with the losses of Emma Giegerich, Emily Sassano and Erinn Hogan.
