1. New speed humps installed in east Albuquerque neighborhood (krqe.com) — New speed humps have been installed along Avenida del Sol near Twin Parks in east Albuquerque as part of the city’s Neighborhood Traffic Management Program. Officials say the 22 humps added citywide in 2025 are meant to slow cut-through traffic and improve safety near popular neighborhood parks, and residents can request similar measures on their own streets.
   

2. Canvas Artistry Restaurant & Art Bar in downtown Albuquerque is closing (krqe.com) — Canvas Artistry Restaurant & Art Bar in downtown Albuquerque will close its One Central location on Jan. 1, 2026, with New Year’s Eve as its final night of service. The third-floor venue, known for daytime dining and nighttime live music, plans to keep offering catering while it restructures and plans its next chapter.
   

3. Sandia National Labs tests rover for moon mission (kob.com) — Scientists at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque helped NASA verify that its VIPER moon rover can withstand extreme launch forces using a one-of-a-kind centrifuge based here. Their tests were the final step before NASA could qualify the lander for a 2027 mission to search for frozen water near the moon’s south pole, potentially shaping future landings and even long-term lunar stays.
   

4. New Mexico Turquoise Alert system faces challenges in aiding missing Native Americans (koat.com) — From Albuquerque, state officials are grappling with how New Mexico’s new Turquoise Alert system can better help families of missing Native Americans, after most alert requests have been denied for not meeting legal criteria. Lawmakers and public safety leaders are considering statute changes, better data systems, more staffing, and outreach so tribal and local agencies can trigger alerts more effectively.
   

5. Piñon pine die-off in New Mexico threatens holiday nuts (kob.com) — Albuquerque-based forestry experts are warning that piñon pine die-offs across New Mexico are still shrinking the supply of beloved holiday piñon nuts. Bark beetle infestations fueled by drought have killed many trees, and even with some recovery and new seedlings, harvesters and wildlife like pinyon jays are feeling the long-term impact.
