Albuquerque Opens First Public Restroom at Civic Plaza (newsradiokkob.com) — Downtown Albuquerque now has its first public restroom at Civic Plaza, a secure “Portland Loo” meant for everyone from families to people experiencing homelessness. The city already has one Loo in Old Town and plans a third at the transit center, aiming to finally address the lack of public facilities in busy areas.

Fire at Albuquerque bookstore encampment has businesses and city seeking it's closure (krqe.com) — City officials are pushing to immediately close a homeless encampment in the parking lot of Quirky Books in Nob Hill after a fire burned multiple tents Monday night. Nearby Albuquerque businesses say repeated safety concerns have them considering closures, while the bookstore owner insists campers feel safer there. A judge will hear the city’s case next month.

New reports detail abuse allegations against APD officer who committed suicide following police stand-off (koat.com) — A former Albuquerque Police Department officer who died by suicide after a Cedar Crest standoff was facing serious criminal charges and detailed abuse allegations, according to newly released documents. Reports also highlight questions about APD’s awareness of his ketamine treatment in Albuquerque and note his estate’s first legal step toward a possible wrongful death lawsuit.

Albuquerque-based Faith Comes By Hearing mourns the loss of its co-founder (krqe.com) — An Albuquerque-based ministry, Faith Comes By Hearing, is inviting the public to a January 16 memorial at Hoffmantown Church for co-founder Anet Jackson, who died December 20 at age 90. Jackson helped grow the local nonprofit into a global audio Bible ministry translating scripture into thousands of languages, and staff say they’ll honor her legacy by continuing that mission.

Albuquerque's sister city in Ukraine works to provide maternity care amid ongoing war (kunm.org) — Albuquerque’s newest sister city, Kharkiv, Ukraine, is struggling to provide safe maternity care as Russia’s war drives down birth rates and increases pregnancy complications. Local doctors there use mobile maternity units and improvised clinics under constant shelling. Their experience is highlighted as a potential model for New Mexico communities facing growing maternity care deserts.
