Teen volunteer honored by Albany County for 3,000 hours of community service (wamc.org) — An Albany 17-year-old, Olivia Rose, has been formally honored by Albany County for logging more than 3,000 hours of community service, much of it focused on environmental work in the South End and across the city. She co-founded the South End Butterfly Sanctuary, volunteers in Youth Court, and is now pushing for a new Hudson River-focused waterfront museum as part of Albany’s revitalization plans.
   

2. Man accused of shooting at Albany police arraigned (spectrumlocalnews.com) — Albany police say a man accused of firing at two detectives and allegedly attacking a woman is now facing a long list of charges in Albany County Court. Prosecutors describe connected domestic violence incidents, a small fire, and an alleged shooting that ended with the suspect hospitalized and additional attempted murder charges pending grand jury review.
   

3. Albany enshrining Civil Inclusion and Rights Protection into law (news10.com) — Albany has officially written “Civic Inclusion and Rights Protection” into its city charter, requiring all city policies and departments to uphold dignity, respect, and existing anti-discrimination protections. Officials say consolidating these protections in the charter reinforces Albany’s identity as a diverse, welcoming city and safeguards local values amid broader national tensions.
   

4. Troopers deliver holiday cheer at Albany Medical Center with 12th annual toy drive (shorenewsnetwork.com) — Young patients at Albany Medical Center Children’s Hospital just received a big boost of holiday cheer, thanks to New York State Police troopers delivering hundreds of donated toys. The 12th annual Troop G and H toy drive, backed by police unions and corporate sponsors, has grown into one of upstate New York’s largest, underscoring the agency’s community-focused work beyond law enforcement.
   

5. UAlbany names new football coach (spectrumlocalnews.com) — UAlbany football is entering a new era, with Susquehanna University’s Tom Perkovich set to become the Great Danes’ third full-time head coach after the new year. Perkovich brings an 84-25 record, four straight conference titles, and deep playoff experience as he succeeds Greg Gattuso, who departed for Penn State.
