1 Dead, 4 Hurt In Drunken NYC Crash, Astoria Driver Arrested: NYPD

ASTORIA, QUEENS, NY — A drunken driver from Astoria killed one man and wounded four others speeding through Manhattan Sunday night, the NYPD said.

Mahbub Ali, 26, was arrested on manslaughter charges after the bloody crash on Third Avenue and East 21st Street Sunday evening about 7:30 p.m., police said.

Ali stands accused of hitting a 23-year-old in a crosswalk, swerving to strike an 18-year-old e-bike rider, jumping the curb and hitting two a man, 21, and a woman, 26, police said.

Finally his car smashed into a parked van, police said.

Five people — the four people struck and a 25-year-old woman riding with Ali — were sent to Bellevue Hospital, where the man in the crosswalk died, police said.

The others suffered non-fatal injuries and Ali did not suffer any, police said.

Ali now faces charges of manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, assault, and driving while intoxicated, police said.
