Driver Arrested In Hit-And-Run That Left Astoria Teen Dead: NYPD

Yaser Ibrahim, 18, was driving without a license when he struck Jaydan McLaurin and sped away, according to police.

ASTORIA, QUEENS — An 18-year-old was arrested Tuesday one day after a 14-year-old cyclist from Astoria was fatally struck by an SUV, police said.

Yaser Ibrahim stands accused of driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident Monday night, when Jaydan McLaurin was fatally struck at 21st Street and 21 Avenue, the NYPD said.

Ibrahim, from Long Island, was driving a 2022 BMW X7 when he hit McLaurin on his Citi Bike, police contend.

The teen, who lived in the Ravenswood Houses, was rushed to Harlem Hospital where he later died, the NYPD said.

Police found the BMW unoccupied shortly after the collision at 23 Street and 22 Drive, police said.
